Tawny eagles and buzzards hover above Ngurdoto Crater, whilst the Momella Lakes is the place for water birds and waders. Lake Manyara National Park offers pink flamingos, pelicans, storks, cormorants, hornbills, heart lab turaco, speckled mouse birds, fire finch, fisher love birds, wood peckers and many other species. 

Tarangire is also one of the Tanzania’s best bird watching safari destinations, it’s a home of more than 400 bird species mostly residing from the woodlands and Tarangire swamps. In Tarangire you can have an opportunity to watch musked weavers, eagles of all kinds, yellow bishops, crown cranes, stalling, ostriches, buffaloe weavers and many more.

Birds found in the southern part of Serengeti National Park are normally following the greater migration of wildebeest where the movement of animals becomes feasting moment for birds while they tend to feed on the flying insects like grasshoppers, butterflies, ants and other species of insects residing in the grass habitats. Predator birds like lappet faced vultures, rupelled griffon vultures, martial eagles, town eagles and small predator birds like harriers, black shoulders kite, African fish eagles, white stocks and many more  are also found in the southern Serengeti during wildebeest calving season.

The best to visit Tanzania for the bird watching safari is from April to June, this is green season in most of the northern Tanzania national parks.
